How to save money in the January sales, my way

I’m not really a dedicated shopper, I do have good intentions and I do like a bargain but going to the shops really stretches my patience. Shops or a nice nature reserve? I know where I would rather be. This year money is exceptionally tight, but I still want the thrill of the chase and the excitement of bagging a bargain and there are a few things that we need so I have resorted to scouring the on-line sales. I think its proof that there is not a lot out there. In fact, nothing worth queueing from 5 AM in the morning for, I’m looking at you Next shoppers! I cant understand why you would buy a whole years worth of clothes in January, aren’t you fed up with them by August?

Anyway, I’ve found that the best way is to make a list of the shops you would buy stuff from and then systematically work through them. Then do a Google search for ‘[insert shop] discount codes’, you can often get a further ten or twenty percent off or free delivery, or sign up to Quidco which gives you cash back on purchases.

When all those options are exhausted I’ve discovered that the best thing to do is simply fill up your on line shopping basket with your purchases. The excitement! Then quietly close that window. There you go, all the excitement of sale shopping and bagging a bargain without any of the expenditure. I’ve found this particularly useful for the kids who have been on enormous exciting shopping sprees at places like the Disney Store and have forgotten what they ordered. Good job things get lost in the post eh?

I love Quidco – saved us heaps in the run up to Christmas (I hate shopping in actual shops so did most of mine online)
