Review: Dolphin Tale Blu-Ray

15th February 2012 No Comments

We were asked if we would like to review Dolphin Tale and as the kids are enormous film fanatics I though it would be the chance to watch something a bit different. Generally they watch animated films, there are a few notable exceptions Nim’s Island being one. With a superb cast  I thought this film should be entertaining for the children. Little did I realise how much I would enjoy it.

Based on a true life story, Dolphin Tale tells the story of a boy who becomes friends with a  Dolphin he finds on the beach which has to be rescued as its tangled up in the ropes of a crab pot. The Dolphin ends up losing its tail which leads to a story line about the development of a prosthetic tail for the Dolphin. After discussions with the kids we decided that its primarily a story about the importance of friendship. We like this sort of story.

As a family we really enjoyed this film, it had ups and downs and things to talk about. It’s a great feel good movie. There was nothing in it that was scary, difficult or awkward. It reminded me of the sorts of films and television programmes I used to watch as a kid, you remember, the gentle ones about animals and friendship. There aren’t a lot of films like this about nowadays, if you enjoyed Free Willy and Gentle Ben you’ll love this film. Harry Connick, Jr makes good viewing too, so something for everyone *ahem* Dolphin Tale is out now to buy on DVD or Blu-ray
