Review: Mr. Men Sports Day

31st July 2012 No Comments

My children have become obsessed by the Olympics, Fifi has decided she wants to be an Olympic swimmer and it fulfils the boys desire to air down in front of the television magnificently. Anyway, just in time for school sports day we were sent a copy of Mr Men Sports Day to have a read which has fitted in well with the sporting theme.

Since school sports day was a bit of a washout this year there were a lot of activities which Boy couldn’t do. It was a real shame, but this this little book helped to inject a bit of silliness and cheer him up about  it.  It also provided the children with some brilliant ideas for pictures to draw and inspired them to think of more silly sporting activities. How about filling the swimming pool with custard, or throwing jelly and a dizzy race track? It’s all very silly in Nonsenseland and sometimes that’s just what an under five year old needs to hear!

Mr Men books are the backbone of any good children’s bookshelf, you’ll get them out to read time and time again and the familiarity of the characters is great. I love the way the characters literally do what they are called; Mr Small is small, Mr Happy is happy and so on.This makes it very easy for little children to understand and is a great way of subtly introducing themes and emotions.

We loved this little book, you can also get a Mr. Men Sports Day Sticker Scene Book, the pair would make an ideal gift and at £2.99 and £3.99 you can’t really go wrong. You’ll find them at www.egmont.co.uk or on Amazon
