It’s not often that you get to review a film which leaves you with really mixed emotions, however Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud did this. The story of a young boy whose father dies in 9/11 it tells the heartbreaking story of how he tries to connect with him by following a journey to meeting all sorts of people in order to crack a non existent clue.
The story is well acted and well written, it tugs the heart strings and then makes you feel a bit manipulated. It’s one of those films that I’m really glad I sat through, but one that is so memorable and so emotional I would probably never want to watch again. I thought that the little boy who played the starring role of Oskar (Thomas Horn) was truly magnificent and very believable, unfortunately it was let down a little by Tom Hanks, not because the acting was bad, but because he is so recognisable as, well, Tom Hanks that his character is not so believable.
If you fancy a thought provoking, emotional film, which, lets face it has a time a place then this one may be for you. Warner Bros have recently released the film on Blu-ray and DVD, its perfect rainy day viewing, just make sure you have plenty of tissues to hand!

I watched this with my daughter, she loved it but I thought it wås too long and a bit disappointing. Sandra Bullock was good, but then she always is.
