What do you want to gain? New Year, New You!

There is nothing better than a bit of ‘me’ time and Special K treated me to the biggest treat I’ve had in ages; a pampering make-up and hair session, and a photo shoot with a celebrity photographer.  What’s more I got to have my picture on the advertising hoardings around the absolutely massive Westfield shopping Centre in West London. Jealous? Well, from Monday you can go along and have exactly the same treatment all you need to do is pop along to Westfield in Shepherds Bush, find the Special K stand and sign up for your session.

Why? Well, the team at Special K realised that actually its more important to think about what you want to gain from losing weight and that a positive frame of mind makes it easier to lose the weight. Its all about breaking the negative attitude and having a positive attitude about what you want to achieve. They want you to ask yourself what you’ll gain when you lose weight. Just think of an inspirational word and you can keep this is mind whenever you think you might falter.

I think this is a brilliant idea. I’ve never been on a diet, I’m not keen on them but I do know that I need to make a change this year. This is exactly the sort of mindset I need to get myself into. I’ve put my picture on the fridge to help spur me on and to stop snacking and comfort eating the chocolate which is my downfall in terms of food.

For me, it’s been a very stressful year and I have gained lots of weight, I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been and to be honest I’m a bit shocked by my picture as I still think of myself as the thin girl who used to run 3 miles a day. I shall use my picture to spur me onto thinness just by eating sensibly.

So going back to my day out, I have to admit I’ve not been to a shopping centre like Westfield before. Before children I went to Bluewater, that’s the nearest I can get. That was about eight years ago. Westfield is in a entirely different league. I didn’t even know where to begin.

Special K gave me a voucher to go on a shopping spree, I think I panicked. I scurried away from lunch determined to spend. Two hours later I was exhausted, shopping free and still wondering where to begin. People don’t tell you that having kids effectively robs you of the ability to shop. I went to the bookshop thinking I’d spend the money on books and then realised I wouldn’t actually be able to carry them all home. I’m such an idiot sometimes.

Anyway, being a minor celebrity. Well, everywhere I went I saw my picture on advertising hoardings which was pretty cool and gave me a new resolve. I want to regain a bit of my sparkle and shine, to be the girl I used to be. I thought I’d buy myself some clothes.

Recently I have rediscovered Warehouse, whether they are stocking clothes suitable for middle aged frumpy mums or whether I just don’t care as much but at the moment I really like their stuff so despite the enormous queues both in Warehouse and Gap I bought a dress, jumper and a top. Brill, a new wardrobe, a New Year and a new attitude. Thank you Special K.

Special K are designating Monday 7th January as ‘Gains Day’ and they are askign women to share their positive feelings on Twitter at #IWantToGain and also at www.myspecialk.co.uk you can also tweet them @myspecial_k  I’m going to keep an eye on the hashtag as I am absolutely sure it will be very positive and inspirational.
