Book Review: Dog Loves Counting by Louise Yates

16th February 2013 No Comments

One of our favourite children’s books is Dog Loves Books. Dog is a fantastic little character who has a childlike innocence about him and Louise Yates is slowly writing a series of books which are set to become modern day classics.

In this story Dog has trouble sleeping, something we which are very familiar with in this house! Instead of moaning and getting up and so forth, Dog looks through his books and goes off on an adventure. He finds lots of different animals to count and they become friends.

This is a delightful book which is beautifully illustrated. It’s also perfectly pitched at a level that children can understand and developing readers can read themselves. We found it a joy from cover to end and it’s set to become a firm bedtime favourite.  The boy wants it noted how much liked the cover of the book with its glossy embossed images of Dog and his friends. He finds this really tactile and attractive, it certainly entices him into the book which is a feat in itself for a reluctant reader!
