Review: Red Cat Blue Cat by Jenni Desmond

18th March 2013 2 Comments

Once in a while a children’s book comes along that’s a breath of fresh air. That’s not to say everything else is staid or boring, just occasionally something comes along that’s just that bit different and it stands out.

Jenni Desmond’s Red Cat Blue Cat is one such book. Red Cat really wants to be Blue Cat and Blue Cat wants to be Red Cat. One’s fast, the other is really clever and they’re jealous of each other.

But what’s the best way to get to be a red cat? Eat red stuff! And what’s the way to become a blue cat, eat blue stuff! And so the battle of eating coloured stuff begins! Reading Jenni Desmond’s blog, it’s fascinating to see how the artwork and story developed over a couple of years.

Underneath the funny story and illustration is a heart warming story about friendship and difference. It is utterly charming! The hardback retails at £11.99 and is well worth the money.

disclaimer: we got sent a copy of this book to review

Sounds lovely! What age would you say it is aimed at/suitable for? I have a 6 year old but she loves longer stories (and cats!)

This would be suitable for your 6 year old, its the sort of book she could read herself. It is lovely, I have the follow up to review shortly too. I can highly recommend.
