Book Review: Christmas by Dick Bruna

24th October 2013 No Comments

I’ve been on the lookout for good books about Christmas for the children, its surprisingly hard to find ones which are easily understandable without being too evangelical. Then, this little gem dropped through the door. I’d not heard before but in 1963 Dick Bruna’s book about Christmas was first published and I think its one of those classics which had passed me by.

As its the fiftieth anniversary Simon and Schuster have published this beautiful new edition. This is a really lovely book for children with fabulous illustrations and I think this adds something when you are trying to explain the nativity story in a simple way. The book is beautifully presented it has a white cover with a gold spine and gold lettering and a lovely integral gold ribbon bookmark with a little cut out angel on the end. I wish all my books had similar bookmarks.

The story needs no explaining as its based on the nativity and the illustrations are as you would expect from any Dick Bruna book. at just £9:99 I don’t think you can go wrong with adding this book to your bookshelf its one which your children should treasure for years to come. You can find out more here.
