Book Review: Doug the Bug That Went Boing! by Sue Hendra

Sue Hendra is one of our favourite authors, the stories are always written and illustrated with such humour that as an adult they are as amusing as they are for the children. This is the story of Doug the bug and his mate Trevor. As is fairly standard in Sue Hendra’s books something befalls Doug (I don’t want to give it away) and he goes on a journey and explores the theme of friendship in a round about way.

I thought this was a great little book, although not as good as No-Bot which makes me laugh just thinking about it. The six year old wasn’t as impressed as usual, however the four and 1 year old chuckled away and really enjoyed the story so its horses for courses. I have to say, I think there is something inherently humorous about a pair of bugs called Doug and Trevor. Genius!

Full of bright colours, a lovely story and a perfect length for an afternoon or bedtime read, you wont go far wrong with Doug The Bug That Went Boing! I just wish that someone would animate these little tales it’s about time there was some real comedy on Cbeebies…
