Book Review: On Sudden Hill by Linda Sarah and Benji Davies

10th August 2014 1 Comment

After my husband has read this book for bedtime with the three children he came up to me and genuinely said it was his contender for book of the year. On Sudden Hill is a beautifully illustrated story which deals which the emotional side of childhood friendship.

The story tells the tale of two best friends who suddenly find another friend to join in the fun and the emotional side of acceptance and all which that entails. This is an issue that we need to deal with often and this is the first book I have come across which deals with it in an understandable manner. The beautiful, charming and effective illustrations help reinforce the story so even the youngest could understand what was happening easily.

This is clearly one of those books which you can get out and read with the children time and time again. I can see it being particularly useful at times when they struggle to deal with relationships at school.

If this book doesn’t get nominated for a children’s book award this year I’d be really surprised. You can get hold of a copy from 28th August 2014 here
