Action Movie Kid

Book Review: Action Movie Kid by Daniel Hashimoto and Mandy Richardville

Action Movie KidThis is the first book i’ve come across actually based on a You Tube video. It’s basically the story of James a little boy who in his imagination is Action Movie Kid, defender of his own universe. Have a look at this clip:

I read Action Movie Kid with my children and it didn’t really appeal to my little girl who felt that it was too boyish. Which is fine, she’s going through a phase of fairies and ponies. The big fan was 3 year old Ned, who I think sees himself as a little Action Movie Kid. I liked the mum and dad who actually looked a bit like me and the husband.

Being a technological household (well everyone is apart from me), they liked the Blippar app which turns the book into an interactive book. These add ons are very popular with my children and its good to see them with books.

Overall, great artwork, a simple story and appealing to small boys. Cant ask for much more really and Ned is waiting with baited breath for the next instalment.

You can find out more and have a little look inside the book here.
