One of the things which I tend to forget is that children don’t necessarily understand the difference between wild and domesticated animals. This is a concept so familiar to me that i’m guilty in my teaching of just using the terms!
This is yet another beautifully produced book from Flying Eye publications which looks at how animals were tamed through time. It is simply a classic book which distinctive illustrations and a well considered explanatory text. It makes a lovely change from the photographic books which are usually used to explore this topic.
My six year old has become obsessed with this book, she’s fascinated by animals anyway but I think this has struck a chord because its very clear in its explanations. The text is easy enough for her reading abilities and its a lovely book to sit and look at.
I can recommend this for its original feel and its relevance to the KS1 and KS2 curriculum. It turns what can be quite a dry and scientific topic for children into something magical.
