I was thrilled to be asked again to be part of the jury for Product of the Year. For those of you not aware of this, its an award scheme which champions and rewards product innovation to help consumers identify products which are really innovative. The jury help vet the products which are nominated before they go into the research where 12,000 shoppers vote for their favourite products.
Product of the Year is a big deal for companies, research indicates that 86% of consumers are more likely to buy a product if its won Product of the Year. This is the largest consumer survey of its kind in the UK and it holds clout! Winners of the product can use the logo on their brands and there is a significant amount of media coverage. Its good news all around, as because its such a large consumer vote, as a consumer you can be sure that you really are getting a great, innovative product.
Jury day took place at the Institute of Directors and each member was given a survey to complete after trying and examining each and every product on our surveys we were asked to give them scores in various categories. The scores were then collated and that was used to eliminate a maximum of 15 % of the lowest scoring products.
Having the opportunity to try such a wide range of products first hand was brilliant. I must admit it was a real chore sampling chocolate bars in particular! It was also fantastic to catch up with some of my blogging friends who I haven’t seen in a while. It was very interesting to see some of my favourite household brands and some of their newest products and I’m really looking forward to finding out which products consumers vote as Product of the Year in 2016 at the awards ceremony in January.
