We all like to have a nice room and for children thats no different. In fact, in our household even the three year old has expressed his dislike of the current decorating scheme! Nowadays there’s no need to spend a fortune to get the look you’re after. I’ve been looking at some top ten DIY kids rooms for inspiration.
A french theme is quite easy to achieve using colour and some wall stickers. Or alternatively you could upcycle some furniture to give the room a girly glam theme like this one.
It doesn’t take much to turn a room into another galaxy. Try handmade planets, glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling, and a space-themed duvet set – we love this one from George which is from just £9.
If you don’t want to go all-out on a theme but desire some fun touches to make the room unique, how about getting your child to add their personality to the room. Give them a wall that they can draw on by painting it with black board paint, buy a white duvet cover and some fabric pens and get them to design their own cover, its all about their imagination.
Some simple paintwork and a few accessories are all that’s needed to achieve this look. If you are a dab hand with a paintbrush you can paint your own mountain scene on the walls and accessorise with the duvet and cushions. If you add a high sleeper bed with a slide you can have your own ski resort!
Know a builder or odd job expert? Maybe they could try putting together a funky bed frame. We love this surfer’s beach bungalow creation.
7. Floral/ Butterfly
Some little girls just want a super pretty room with flowers everywhere. Little Fifi wanted a room full of butterflies. We used Laura Ashley’s Bella Butterfly range to achieve this effect.
Let little ones dream of taking off into the sky with an aviation-inspired room. This is a serious room for a serious little one and its really fun to achieve. I’ve got sucked into pinterest on this one as there are some really amazing ideas. Have a look at this board.
Kids love animals, so why not turn a bedroom into a menagerie with all their favourite creatures? Discover free imagery online and print it off for the wall, then grab a load of animal toys and pillows. We love this bolster cushion from H&M, which will certainly help to achieve the look.
A dinosaur themed bedroom would have been top of my list of themes when I was little. There is so much stuff around that this can be achieved very easily with stickers, themed duvet cover and soft toys. I’m keen to have a go at making a dinosaur cushion.
I’d love to know what your favourite theme is. Im currently in the process of redecorating our house and we are going with superheroes in the boys room and fairies in Fifi’s room. Its exciting times, if you’ve come across anything which might help to dress the room do let me know!
