jonny jakesIts very hard to get my nine year old reluctant reader to read a book independently from start to finish. However, he loved Jonny Jakes Investigates: The Hamburgers of Doom so much that when the latest book in the series about schoolboy reporter, Jonny Jakes arrived, he took it away up to his room and started reading.

In this book Jonny is trying to find out about the school ghoul currently terrifying people. Its 100 years since the ghoul was last active, so Jonny can smell a rat!

My eldest has been reading this book without prompt at bedtime ever since it arrived and is making good progress. I’m amazed and thrilled.

When I asked what it was about these books which has prompted him to read them he told me that he likes the font and how it looks which makes it easy to read. These are well produced books which look and feel nice, something I’ve realised is very important for the reluctant reader. He also identifies with Jonny Jakes which I thought was lovely. The boy enjoys books with a lot of humour and a bit of adventure so I can see why he likes it. I just hope I can steal it off him to see what its all about for myself.

If you’d like to find out more about these books and perhaps order a copy for yourself you can find everything you need here on the Curious Fox website.
