Book Review: All About Feelings

27th May 2019 No Comments

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Usborne have revealed two new brilliant books designed to help young children recognise and manage their emotions.

All About Feelings by Felicity Brooks and Frankie Allen is an excellent introduction to help children name their emotions and to talk about how they are feeling. This book also helps with building self-confidence and emotional intelligence. Initially I thought it would be too young for my 7 and 10 year olds however, looking at it with them and working through the exercises was incredibly useful. This is a brilliant addition to our bookshelf and for under £10 is well worth buying for yours. Its out on 13th June 2019. Find out more here.

What are feelings? illustrated by Christine Pym and by Katie Daynes explores happiness, sadness, anger, fear and worry. In the book there are lots of animal in different challenging scenarios and your child has to lift the flap to get some advice about how to deal with it. Again, on first impressions this looks like a suitable toddler book but it actually contains some really useful advice and my 7 year old has been enjoying reading it. I think its so valuable to have a few books which help children to understand their emotions and the emotions of others and which also tell them how to deal with these situations. Top marks from me! What are feelings? is out on 11th July 2019. Find out more here.
