Review: The Dark Knight Rises on Blu-Ray

7th January 2013 No Comments

I hardly ever get the chance to watch films in the evening because I’m so busy working on stuff and tidying up the house so I was delighted when I was sent a bundle of films for Christmas from Warner Bros. It was gratefully received not least because it gave me the perfect excuse to sit down and watch a grown up film with the hubby, so first up is The Dark Knight Rises.

The Dark Knight Rise is the third film in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. He’s an alumni of my university, this immediately means I’m more critical of his stuff. However, I must say I’ve really enjoyed his Batman films. I don’t tend to like action/ adventure movies, with the exception of Indiana Jones for obvious reasons but these have proved an exception.

Christian Bale makes an excellent Batman, he’s dark, awkward and has something deep about him and in this film we see him as Batman struggling with the aftermath of what happened in the last movie and quite literally becoming Batman again. Its a visual feast with plenty of themes to think about. I haven’t read any of the comics so I cant critique from the point of view of a fan. I’m watching it purely as a film fan, purely for entertainment and I loved it. I loved the character of Catwoman and thought Anne Hathaway did an excellent job and I liked all the vehicles. It was deep, dark, flippant, entertaining and perfect for a Saturday night movie.
