Book Review: Crayon by Simon Rickerty

24th December 2013 No Comments

One of the best books we read last year was Monkey Nut which won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize for Simon Rickerty. Its a brilliant little book all about sharing and it really struck a chord with all the children in our house. I think partly because its so visual and simple in its approach.

Crayon is Simon Rickerty’s new book and is written in the same way as Money Nut and features the same little characters. This time they are using their crayons for colouring and they squabble over which side of the paper each of them is allowed to use. Since this is something which happens with regularity in our household as the craft table is quite small the book commands a lot of empathy here!

This is a brilliant little story with a really good message and little Ned literally bounces up and down with joy as the prospect of reading it. I think his sentiments speak for us all, we love it.
