beastly pirates

There is nothing my children enjoy more than a book about pirates and this one really hit the spot, even my eldest (nearly 8 and ‘too old’ according to him for most picture books) was engaged with this one.  The Beastly Pirates are gruesome pirates who cook up a feast and are the scariest pirates in town for various reasons.

My children who are quite bloodthirsty in their choice of stories and games (thats children of archaeologists for you) really enjoyed this story and thought it hilarious. I could tell they were engaged as they looked very carefully at the pictures and we had lots of spin off discussions. Its become a favourite bedtime read for us, although if you have sensitive little souls then I’d stick to reading it at snack time!

The Beastly Pirates is a great appealing rhyme which has excellent meter (according to the husband) making it a fun read for adults. The illustrations are fantastic and the characters sure to spark off little imaginations. I think there is potential here for a TV series and we’re waiting with baited breath for the next instalment.

You can find out more about the book here and also grab an activity pack.
